Rabindra Secures Silver Class Podium at Rockingham

Round three of the British GT Championship took place at Rockingham Motor Speedway, Northamptonshire on 29/30 April. After some free practice on Saturday qualifying took place later in the day with Akhill and team mate Dean Macdonald managing a credible 10th position.

On Sunday Macdonald took the start of the two-hour race in the #59 Garage 59 Black Bull McLaren 570s GT4 and during his stint managed to pass 3 cars before the pit stop window opened. A slick pit stop by the drivers and crew saw them jump two positions with Rabindra now at the wheel returning to the 3.12 km track in 5th place. Rabindra set about chasing down 4th place but the safety car was deployed to retrieve a car from the gravel meaning Rabindra had to hold station until the safety car came back into the pits. Now up to 4th with the retirement of the #55 Ginetta it looked as if an overall podium was possible if Rabindra could catch the #501 Optimum Motorsports entry and 2016 champions but although gaining on the 3rd place car time ran out and Rabindra took the checkered flag in an excellent 4th position overall (3rd in Silver class), an excellent result from a qualifying position of 10th.

Rabindra and Macdonald now hold 3rd position in the GT4 Silver cup with 47.5 points.

The next race is at Snetterton, Norfolk on the 27/28 May
