Strong fight back for Rabindra at Brands Hatch
Akhil Rabindra and Dean Macdonald arrived at the penultimate round in the 2017 British GT championship at Brands Hatch hopeful of a good result but their hopes were dashed when the Garage 59 McLaren 570s developed a mechanical issue at the end of free practice. The team worked extremely hard to repair the car but their efforts were in vain as they were not able to complete the repair in time for qualifying meaning the pair would have to start the 2-hour race from dead last, 29th position.
Macdonald started the two-hour race in the #59 McLaren on Sunday from back of the grid, the British driver slowly started to make inroads, but had In2Racing McLaren 570S of Will Goff and Daniel Mckay in front of him for most part of his stint.
As the pit window opened Macdonald had climbed in to 24th position overall and he pitted on lap 38 to hand over to Rabindra who came out in 23rd - gaining a position during the stop.
Rabindra continued to push in the very competitive field and eventually making up another 2 places to finish an excellent 6th in class.
The championship now heads for its final round at the Donington Park during the September 23-24 weekend.
