Academy Motorsport signs Hurst and Stanley for British GT4 Campaign
Academy Motorsport has recently made significant steps towards its 2019 British GT campaign, by signing two new racing drivers ahead of next season. Ben Hurst and Micah Stanley will join the team as part of its GT4 operation.
Following an announcement earlier this year (September), which stated Academy Motorsport will be continuing its partnership with Aston Martin Racing, with their two new Aston Martin Vantage GT4s the team is thrilled with this early signing ahead of the season.
In recent months it was also revealed that Aston Martin Racing is reviving its Young Driver Academy for 2019, an initiative which has been devised to find its next factory-backed racing driver. As one of few teams supported by Aston Martin Racing, Academy Motorsport is heavily involved with this programme.
21-Year-old Canadian, Ben Hurst who is based in Manchester has been racing since 2014, starting in karting and progressing into Canadian Formula Ford where he was awarded Rookie of the year in his first season. Ben then went on to win the championship in 2017. 2018 marked a significant move in his career, with his first season of racing in the UK in the BRDC F3 Championship.
18-year-old Micah Stanley, is a resident of the Principality of Monaco and has raced in karts from 2010 to 2016. In 2016 Micah tested in F3 and then switched to GT’s. In 2017 and 2018 he raced in selected rounds of the European GT4 championship before deciding to join Academy Motorsport for a full season in British GT GT4 for 2019.
Commenting on these signings, Academy Motorsport’s Managing Director, Matt Nicoll-Jones, said: “We’re thrilled to be able to confirm Ben and Micah ahead of next season. Both drivers have a degree of experience behind them which should help them work well together.
