Aidan Kenny continues winning form at VIR
Virgina International Raceway was another circuit Aidan had never been to. With an extra race added on Friday to cover the cancelled race from the previous round at Ozarks Aidan had his work cut out if he wanted to continue his winning streak.
Starting from pole position Aidan kept the lead into turn one and set about building on his lead. With the other drivers now battling each other Aidan continued to push setting the fastest lap and crossed the line over twelve seconds in the lead to score his fourth win of the season.
With race 2 on Saturday Aidan again started in pole position after setting the fastest lap in qualifying. As they went into turn one Aidan was under attack from the #23 car which managed to edge in front. Determined not to let him get away Aidan set about attacking for the lead but on lap 8 at 141mph a rear tyre failed and sent him into the wall. Aidan was taken to the medical centre and released with no injuries however the car was damaged meaning a race against time for the W2W crew to repair the car overnight.
A supreme effort by the crew meant Aidan could start the race on Sunday, again starting from Pole position. As the green flag waved Aidan held the lead, but with three cars hanging on to him it was not going to be an easy race. As the race went onto the final 4 laps Aidan was coming under intense pressure from the #23 car and having to negotiate lapped traffic the #23 was now on Aidans bumper. Keeping his cool and continuing to push on now worn tyres Aidan crossed the line 0.7 seconds ahead notching up win number 5.
Aidan Kenny “I’m really happy with the weekend but it’s a real shame we had the tyre issue in Saturday’s race as it cost us valuable points. A big thank you to the W2W team who did a fantastic job all weekend and getting my car repaired in time for the Sunday race”.
The next round of the Porsche Sprint Challenge is at Road America on July 30 & 31.
