Career best result for De La Torre at Miami

Elias De La Torre achieved a career best result at the weekend at his home race  with  5th & 6th place finishes at the Miami Grand Prix over the weekend.

The second round of the Porsche Carrera Cup North America championship took place at Miami over the weekend supporting the Miami F1 Grand Prix.

Qualifying for race 1 in P9 Elias took the green flag holding position into turn one but at turn 4 he was pushed off track dropping him to P11. By lap five he had gained two positions putting him into P9 and he was attacking the #8 for 8th place. On lap 12 he passed the #8 for 7th place and was now on the back of the leading pack of six cars but unfortunately the safety car was deployed for a stricken car leaving only 13 minutes of the race remaining. Unable to clear the car in time the race would finish under the safety car but with post-race penalties issued to two cars ahead this would elevate Elias into P5 giving him his best placed finish in Carrera Cup.

Starting race two on Sunday from P6 Elias held position through the tricky opening corners but a multi car collision behind needed the safety car to neutralise the race. After a lengthy clean up racing resumed with 17 minutes remaining, but another collision bought out the safety car again. Racing resumed with only 7 minutes remaining on the clock, Elias immediately set about attacking P5 which he passed with two laps remaining only to get repassed by the #88 and crossing the line in P6.

The next round of the Porsche Carrera Cup North America will be at Montreal, again supporting Formula 1 on 7-9 June.
