De La Torre rounds off season with a podium in Spain
The penultimate round of the North American Super Trofeo series took place at Jerez, Span today with Elias De La Torre IV starting from P8 on the grid. On a drying track slick tyres were the choice for the 25 car grid. A good start saw Elias move up to P7 on the first lap then into P6 on lap 2. A three car battle for P5 took place with Elias finally moving into P5 on lap 9. As the field started to pit for the mandatory stop Elias stayed out and put in some blistering lap times that would eventually help him with his extra 3 seconds he has to serve in the pit stop for driving alone. Pitting at the end of lap 12 he rejoined the race in P4 and then moved into P3 on the following lap but a safety car was required on lap 15. An untidy restart saw the leading pack fighting into the final turn with Elias managing to hold P3 but as the leading 4 cars fought over the lead two cars came together in front of Elias causing him to take avoiding action but unfortunately one of the cars span and clipped the rear of his car and spun him out of the race. Managing to rejoin he crossed the line in a disappointing the P19.
The final race will be on Friday before the start of the World Finals at the weekend.
The final round of the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Championship North America took place on Friday in Jerez, Spain. Weather was dry and warm, a contrast to thursdays damp and cloudy conditions with Elias De La Torre starting from P5. A good start saw Elias hold position and briefly snatch 4th place halfway round the first lap before slotting back into P5 but a safety car at the end of the first lap temporarily halted his progress. The race resumed on lap 3 and Elias started to attack P4 until another safety car on lap 8. At the restart Elias was immediately attacking for P4 and on lap 11 a brilliant move up the inside at turn ten saw him snatch 4th place. The pit window opened on lap 11 but Elias opted to stay out making up good time in clean air until he pitted at the end of lap 13. He rejoined the race in P4 and was immediately nose to tail with the third place car until lap 18 when another great move saw him dive up the inside to snatch third place. Ahead was the team’s sister car and Elias put in some blistering lap times to catch the second place car until on lap 23 at the final turn he slipped up the inside to take second place. With only a short amount of time left he was closing down on P1 but time ran out and he crossed the line in a fantastic second position.
