Double Podium for Kenny at Indy

The penultimate round of the Porsche Sprint Challenge North America took place over the weekend with Aidan Kenny taking to the historic Indianapolis Motor Speedway in his W2W racing Porsche Cayman GT4. With qualifying taking place on Friday afternoon Aidan qualified a superb P2 at a track he has never been to before. A wet start was declared for the Cayman race on Saturday with weather conditions forcing a nearly 30-minute delay. With the race starting behind the safety car the race eventually started and as the 25-car grid completed their first lap Aidan was nudged back to 3rd. The top 4 cars had now broken away from the rest of the field and as they entered lap 6 the lead car lost control and aquaplaned heavily into the barriers causing extensive damage to the tyre barrier. Now behind the safety car the field continued to circulate but unfortunately the race finished under yellow as the barrier could not be repaired in time with Aidan finishing in P2.

Race 2 on Sunday started in dry conditions with Aidan starting from P2 again, as the field took the green flag and headed into turns 1 & 2 Aidan was nudged back to P5 then on lap 2

a full course yellow was shown to retrieve a stranded car. After 3 laps, the green was shown to continue racing and after another two laps Aidan pounced and took two positions in one move moving him to P3. Now on lap 10 the full course yellow was shown again for debris on the track, with 3 minutes remaining the racing resumed with Aidan now attacking for P2 but now on the final lap he was unable to find his way past crossing the line in P3.

Aidan Kenny

“Overall, it’s been a good weekend, my start was not the best in race 2 and I gave myself a lot of work to do to get myself back in the fight, but we got another great haul of points towards the championship which is my main focus as we head into the final round”.

The final round of the Porsche Sprint Challenge North America will be at COTA, Texas on 17th & 18th September.
