Mikkel Grundtvig joins Fortec for 2021

Mikkel Grundtvig will contest the 2021 BRDC British Formula 3 Championship with Fortec Motorsports, joining the team for his first full season of racing on British circuits. The 18-year-old from Denmark makes a return to single-seaters this year, following a season in the Danish Endurance Championship in 2020 where he claimed three victories behind the wheel of a Lamborghini Huracán. Hailing from Vejle, Grundtvig began karting in 2015 before graduating to cars in the entry-level Aquila Synergy Cup. Prior to racing a GT car last year, Grundtvig was a race winner in single-seaters, claiming victories in Renault Danish F4 and French F4 throughout 2018 and ’19. Grundtvig claimed two victories and six podiums in the Denmark-based F4 series in 2018, before improving with a further three wins and eight podiums in the same championship the next year despite contesting just a partial schedule, as he dovetailed his appearances with a French campaign where he claimed a single win. Grundtvig is Fortec Motorsports’ second confirmed signing for the 2020 BRDC British F3 Championship, following the earlier announcement that Brazil’s Roberto Faria would return to the squad following his part-time campaign last year. Grundtvig said: “I’m really happy to be joining Fortec to race in the British F3 Championship this year, the team haver a very long and successful history of developing drivers and winning championships. I’ve already tested at some circuits in the UK last year and have been working on the simulator back home in Denmark. We have worked hard over the winter preparing for this season and I will give 100% so we can continue this success together.

The 2020 BRDC British Formula 3 Championship is due to begin at Brands Hatch on 22-23 May.
