P9 for Maloy at Hockenheim

Round four of the European GT4 Championship took place at Hockenheim, Germany over the weekend and was another new track for American driver Nick Maloy.

Having never driven on this circuit before qualifying on Saturday it turned out to be  a mixed bag for the #92 Porsche Cayman GT4 RS crew. Teammate Emil Heyerdahl managed a great qualifying run for race 1 putting the car on P8 but Nick struggled to get a clear lap in the 51-car field and could only manage P33 overall.

Race 1 on Saturday was in extremely hot conditions and Emil made a great start moving into P3 by lap 15 when the pit window opened to hand over to Nick. A good pit stop saw Nick rejoin still in P3 but was nudged back to P5 on his out lap. Now up to pace Nick set about regaining his lost positions but on lap 25 whilst defending he put a wheel on the grass sending the car into a huge slide which he skilfully saved but dropped to P12. By lap 28 he was up to P11 and on the final lap crossed the line in P10. A post-race penalty for another car saw the #92 elevated into P9.

Race 2 on Sunday was always going to be tough starting out of position in a huge field of cars. A good start saw Nick pick up positions and by the end of lap 2 was already into P25. A lengthy safety car period followed after a multi car accident, and the race resumed on lap 8. At the end of lap 10 Nick was into P23 but whilst attempting another move he was left with nowhere to go when a slower car boxed him in and Nick made contact with the rear of another car damaging his radiator and eliminating him on the spot.

The next round of the European GT4 Championship will be at Monza, Italy on September 21 & 22.
