Podium Run Continues for Kenny at VIR

Aidan Kenny continued his run of podium finishes in the Porsche Sprint Challenge North America 992 GT3 at VIR with two more second place finishes at VIR over the weekend.

Starting from P2 on the grid for race one Aidan was nudged back to P3 at turn 1 by the #282, for the next two laps Aidan piled on the pressure and at the start of lap 3 he forced the second-place car into a mistake and dived up the inside at turn 1 moving himself into P2 and set about chasing down the leader until a full course yellow neutralised the race. The race went green on lap 9 but further contact between cars lower down in the field bought another full course yellow. Now with the cars nose to tail the race restarted on lap 12 and Aidan came under immediate attack from the #214. For the next 5 laps Aidan was under intense pressure from the car in P3 but managed to hold his position crossing the line in P2.

Again, starting from P2 for race two Aidan attacked into the first corner, trying to go around the outside of the #206 but couldn’t make the move stick on the exit. He continued to chase the leader all through the race as the pair pulled away from the chasing #214 in third place, this would continue for the entire race until two laps from the end a full course yellow was shown for a collision further back in the field. Unfortunately, with no time left on the clock the race finished under caution and Aidan had to settle for 2nd place.

“Two more podiums is great for my championship but I still have a little work to do to get on the top step. I worked through the data on Saturday night and found some more time in myself for Sunday’s race. I’m improving every time I’m on track and will keep working hard with my engineer to improve the car and unlock that extra pace.

The next round of the Porsche Sprint Challenge North America is at Mid-Ohio on 1st & 2nd of July.
