Points and Frustration for De La Torre in Final Race weekend at COTA

The final round of the Porsche Carrera Cup North America took place at the Circuit of the Americas over the weekend supporting the United States Formula 1 Grand Prix.

Race two saw Elias’s best performance of the season but would subsequently end in disappointment after a badly executed attempt to pass from another car.

Starting from P17 in race one the field ran six wide into the iconic uphill turn one with Elias emerging in P16, a safety car was required on lap two to recover a stranded car. As the race resumed on lap four Elias continued his charge and by lap seven was into P15 and by lap nine had moved into P14. With the field now a little strung-out Elias had to settle for P14 at the flag and scoring points in the penultimate race.

The final race was on Sunday morning with Elias again starting from P17. At the end of lap one Elias was up to P15 and picking off cars every lap until on lap five whilst in P10 the safety car was sent out to neutralise the race and recover a damaged car. As the green flag waved some laps later Elias immediately jumped the #2 at the restart to take P9 but at turn thirteen the #2 hit the rear of Elias’s #4 JDX Racing Porsche damaging his suspension and ending his race.

Subsequently the # 2 received a 36 second time penalty for contact with Elias and ending his race.

After a short break Elias will focus on a winter test programme in preparation for the 2024 season.
