Points for De La Torre at Long Beach

Elias De La Torre IV had a bitter-sweet weekend at his first visit to Long Beach for the Porsche Carrera Cup North America Championship over the weekend. With two practice sessions prior to qualifying on Friday Elias qualified in 15th position for race 1 which was on Saturday.

As the race started the 35-car field took the green flag with Elias holding position, with numerous full course yellows and restarts Elias managed to cross the line in P14 securing his first points of the Championship.

For race 2 Elias was more confident and had made some set up changes over night, as the cars took the green flag lap one was frantic with one car hitting the wall on the straight and another spinning at turn 4. Holding position Elias began making up positions following a safety car restart and by lap 11 he was now fighting for tenth place, with just 12 minutes remaining of the 40-minute race Elias was hit from behind by the #85 which cut his rear right tyre and a few corners later the tyre exploded sending Elias into the wall and finishing his race.

Long Beach was as fun and enjoyable as I expected it to be although it’s a very fast and unforgiving circuit, it’s a real shame we got hit in race 2 as I think we could have climbed put to at least P9.

The team gave me a fantastic set up for race 2 I’m just sorry I couldn’t bring home the result for them. I’m really looking forward to the next race which is my home race in Miami.
