Season first Pole for Yoder at COTA

Aidan Yoder notched up his first pole position of the season for Precision Racing LA at COTA over the weekend in the Toyota GT Cup North America Championship.

After qualifying in a season best P4 for race one on Saturday, Sunday morning saw the track wet and with the rest of the field all on wet tyres the decision was made to gamble with slicks. As the 15-minute qualifying session came to an end Aidan crossed the line on the final lap 1.6 seconds clear of the field to take his first Pole Position of the season.

As Aidan led the field across the line he pulled out in front as they made their way up the 133 ft. hill into Turn 1. Five-wide action followed Yoder as the rest of the field fought for position on the slippery track on the opening laps. Aidan continued to build a 2 second gap but as the race went on his tyres, that he had used in qualifying started to drop off and with the chasing pack on fresher rubber it was inevitable that they would catch him.

A seven-car battle ensued with Aidan swapping places several times but with his tyres now

finished he continued to fight hard still trading positions on the final lap and crossed the line in 8th place.

Aidan Yoder

“In a weekend of changing weather conditions, we’re leaving with a pair of 8th place finishes and my first pole position of the year. The active rain on Sunday made it 50/50 on what tires to use in qualifying, and I put my full trust in the team’s decision to run on slick tires. I wholeheartedly believe that was the right decision, and to leave COTA with a pole position on my record is much more than I expected. This was also my first race on slick tires in active rain, which was both a fun and mentally taxing challenge. Our early run pace was very strong, and I’m looking forward to continuing this momentum into VIR."

The next round of the Toyota GR Cup is at VIR on 17th & 18th June
