Second podium for Grundtvig at Spa

Fresh from his maiden win at Donington Park Mikkel Grundtvig headed to Spa for rounds 10,11 &12 of the BRDC F3 Championship. The high-speed, sweeping 4.3-mile Spa circuit in the heart of the Ardennes would prove to be a challenge for Mikkel during practice and qualifying as some mechanical issues hampered his performance.

Having qualified P14 for race one which was wet Mikkel had to settle for P14 at the flag, race two was a similar story moving up one place to finish in P13.

Race three Mikkel started from P3 on the grid, a fantastic start saw him move into second place at the first turn then getting the benefit of a tow down the Kemmel Straight managed to pass Juffali for the lead then set about extending his advantage. With two laps to go and his tyres starting to go off Mikkel still lead from his teammate who was now in his tow as they went down the Kemmel straight for the penultimate time, unable to defend Mikkel had to settle for second place at the flag but securing a 1,2,3 for the team with an all Fortec Motorsports rostrum.

Mikkel Grundtvig (#43):

“It’s really satisfying to have another podium finish, not least because we’ve now done it two race weekends in a row, which shows the results are starting to come consistently.

“As a weekend, it was difficult in places, but we worked as a team to move through that and ended it on a really high note. Of course, you always want to win, but if you can’t then a 1-2-3 finish for the team is a pretty ideal situation.

“I’ve continued to learn and develop this weekend, driving at Spa was a really great experience to have, and now I’m just looking ahead to Snetterton.”

The BRDC British Formula 3 Championship resumes over the weekend of 7-8 August at Snetterton’s 300 circuit in Norfolk.
