Top 5 for De La Torre on Super Trofeo Debut

Elias De La Torre IV achieved a 5th place finish in the Pro class at Laguna Seca over the weekend at his debut in the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Series.

Friday practice was hindered by some brake issues as Elias got to grips with the No. 29 HCB Yachts Lamborghini Huracan Super Trofeo Evo 2 which the team fixed overnight. Saturday saw Elias qualify in P11 for race 1 and P9 for race 2 overall in the 41-car field.

Starting from P11 Elias got a fantastic start and by the end of lap 1 had moved up five positions and was running in P6, over the next thirteen laps Elias was fighting for P5 when the pit window opened on lap 14. Unfortunately, a stalled car in front of Elias blocked his path back onto the track and loosing time he re-joined the race and set about making back places. With two full course yellows, one which continued until the final lap Elias was forced to settle for P8 in the Pro class at the flag.

Race two on Sunday saw Elias start from P9 but a crash at the back of the field saw the safety car deployed. On lap 8 the green flag was waved, and Elias jumped into P8 moving into P9 on the following lap then making his mandatory pit stop on lap 10. With other cars now making their stops another Safety car period was required. With the race resuming on lap 18 Elias was now up to P7 in the Pro class but yet another safety car would mean the race would finish under yellow. Post-race penalties for the #77 & #21 would elevate Elias into P5 in the Pro class.

Elias will now focus on his Porsche Carrera Cup duties which will be at the Montreal Formula 1 race on June 7-9. Elias will return to the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Championship with TR3 Racing at the Circuit of the Americas at the end of August.
