Tough Opening Round for Yoder at Sonoma
The first round of the Toyota GR Cup Championship took place at Sonoma over the weekend with Aidan Yoder returning to Precision Racing LA for a second season in the Segra backed #44 Toyota GR86.
After delays limiting track use due to issues with thew newly resurfaced circuit only one test session was possible before qualifying on Saturday with Aidan placing the #44 in P8 for race 1 in the 29-car field.
As the flag waved for the start Aidan held position but as they approached turn 11 he was hit from the rear by the #80 eliminating both cars on the spot.
After the team carried out repairs Saturday the #44 was able to take part in qualifying for race two which took place on Sunday morning.
Qualifying in P10 Aidan took the green flag and immediately moved up one position on the first lap, on lap 8 the safety car was deployed so that a car could be recovered from the circuit, after three laps the race resumed with Aidan attacking for P8. On lap 12 Aidan moved into P8 but whilst attacking for P7 in a three-car wide battle Aidan was nudged back into P9. With his tyres now going off Aidan was unable to advance any further and had to settle for P9 at the flag.
The next round of the Toyota GR Cup will be at Sebring on May 3-5.
