Tough Weekend for Bartholomew at Oulton Park
The third round of the Porsche Carrera Cup GB Championship took place at Oulton Park over the weekend.
Qualifying took place on Saturday morning with Jack Bartholomew managing to qualify in P9 just 0.7 seconds shy of the pole position time and with only 1 second covering the top 15 in the ultra-competitive field.
Race one was on Saturday afternoon but as the lights went out too much wheelspin off the line dropped Bartholomew to P12, as the field approached the end of lap 1 another car clipped the front end of Bartholomew damaging his steering and sending the competitor into the gravel. The red flag was shown so that the car could be recovered. At the second restart the field set off again but still nursing damage to his steering Bartholomew was unable to show the pace that he had in qualifying and crossed the line in P13.
Race two on Sunday in front of a bumper crowd saw Bartholomew lining up in P13 due to his finishing position from race 1. This time as the lights went out Bartholomew got a much better start and set about chasing down the pack but on lap 12 Bartholomew was T-boned at the hairpin sending both cars onto the grass. Managing to recover he re-joined the track but had now dropped to P16. With such an amount of time lost he was unable to catch the pack and crossed the line in P16.
Jack Bartholomew
“To be honest it’s one of those weekends to forget although we still picked up a couple of points. With damage in race one knocking us down the order it really put us on the back foot for race two as it’s so difficult to overtake here. Hopefully our bad luck is now behind us and we can have a better round at Knockhill”.
In the Championship standings Bartholomew is now 7th and 3rd in the Rookie Championship.
The next round of the Porsche Carrera Cup GB is at Knockhill in Scotland on 30 & 31 July.
